BPSD Student Transportation

All Bethel Park School District students are transported to and from school via bus.

Parents who DO NOT want the District to provide bus transportation for their student should submit a note to their child's principal indicating they do not want their child transported to and from school. This request will have to be done on an annual basis.

School Bus Schedules
School bus information is posted in the Home Access Center of the eSchoolPlus student records system. If you have not activated your child's HAC account and need some assistance, please contact the building secretary at your child's school, who will be happy to assist you. If you do not have internet access at home, there are computers at the Bethel Park Library, and the librarians there will also be happy to assist you.

Parents/Guardians enrolling their students in Bethel Park for the upcoming school year before the second Monday in August will ensure their children are transported to and from school the first week. Students enrolled after that date may not be eligible for district transportation until school starts.

Transportation Procedures During Delays and Cancellations

Bethel Park School District Families:
Sometimes, the passage of time will enable road crews to clear the roads and allow busses to warm up and transport children safely to school. If a 2-hour delay is called, students in grades 1-12 should arrive at their bus stops or school two hours later than usual.

When a 2-hour delay is called, all Bethel Park Kindergarten students will be on a Modified Kindergarten Schedule. Modified Kindergarten equalizes instruction for both AM and PM Kindergarten students to 1 hour and 40 minutes. Please note the Modified Kindergarten schedule that will be used on all days with a 2-hour delay:

AM Kindergarten will attend from 11:20 a.m. until 1 p.m.
PM Kindergarten will attend from 2 p.m. until 3:40 p.m.
*PM Kindergarten students should arrive at their respective bus stops 1-hour later than usual.

Parents, please also be reminded that on days with delays, building staff is also on that delay, so there may not be anyone at the front door to let your child into the building should they arrive too early. Please do not drop your child off at school before the delayed starting time.

In an emergency closing, all parents should have prior arrangements made for their children. As it is not always possible to contact each person through the school's emergency calling system, children should know what to do or where to go if parents are not home during the emergency dismissal.

Private/Parochial School Families:
When there is a 2-hour delay for inclement weather in the Bethel Park School District, all Bethel Park students who attend non-Bethel Park School District schools will be transported to school two hours later than usual.

When the Bethel Park School District cancels school for inclement weather, it will not provide transportation for any students that day. In that instance, students who attend non-BPSD schools will be responsible for their transportation.

When a private/parochial school calls for a delay due to inclement weather, but BPSD has not called one, the students who attend private/parochial schools will be transported to school at their regularly scheduled time.

Operational Procedures During Delays and Cancellations

Day Care Transportation

The Bethel Park School District provides transportation only to daycare centers that are located within the attendance zone of the elementary school in which the student attends.

All daycare bus runs are based on the current attendance zones of each elementary school. Additionally, Lois Johnson provides before and after-school programs at all Bethel Park Elementary Schools, except William Penn Elementary School.

School Bus Safety Tips

Pennsylvania's school bus stopping law requires motorists approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended to stop at least 10 feet from the bus. Motorists approaching from all directions are required to stop. However, motorists who encounter a school bus stopping on the opposite side of a divided highway are not required to stop. Lanes of a divided highway are clearly separated by a divider such as concrete barriers or grassy medians. If convicted of violating Pennsylvania's School Bus Stopping Law, an individual faces a $344.50 fine plus court costs, five points on the driving record and a 60-day license suspension.

AAA provides these safety tips:

* Avoid distractions and stay alert.

* Expect pedestrians on sidewalks.

* Come to a complete stop at stop signs.

* Watch for bikes.

* DO NOT PASS stopped school buses. It's dangerous and ILLEGAL.

* Leave early for your destination. Avoid school zones, if possible.

* Look for crossing guards to indicate that you're approaching a school zone.
