Morgan Schmude: Bethel Park Rotary February Student of the Month

Morgan Schmude, a Bethel Park High School senior, has been recognized as the Bethel Park Rotary Club’s February Student of the Month for her academic achievements, leadership, and dedication to her community.

Morgan, the daughter of Cher and Tom Schmude and younger sister of Dylan ‘21, maintains a weighted 4.17 GPA while actively participating in school and community activities. In the fall, she will attend the University of Pittsburgh to pursue a degree in nursing.

A passionate advocate for inclusion, Schmude is a dedicated member of Best Buddies, where she partners with a student named Reed, who she says doesn’t speak often but loves to draw. She enjoys supporting his artistic interests and celebrating holidays with the Best Buddies group. Her commitment to service extends to the Cool Schools Polar Plunge, where she raised $1,500 to support the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania in an event held at Bethel Park High School. Inspired by her uncle’s long-standing involvement with the Special Olympics, Morgan has been around the event since childhood and continues to lead fundraising efforts, including the upcoming Pittsburgh Plunge on Feb. 22.

In addition to her philanthropic efforts, Morgan is a varsity cheerleader, a National Honor Society member, and a coach for the Bethel Park recreation cheer program, where she also helps run summer camps. Having started cheerleading in seventh grade, she values the strong bonds she has formed with her teammates, likening them to family. She particularly enjoys the annual UCA cheer camp and its team-building activities.

Beyond school, Schmude works in the child watch program at the YMCA daycare center and frequently babysits. Later this month, Morgan and her family will make their annual trip to Florida to support her brother as he competes in Spring Training as a St. Vincent College baseball team member.

The Bethel Park Rotary Club honors students like Morgan for their leadership, community involvement, and positive impact. For more information about the Rotary Club and its programs, visit their Facebook page or contact local Rotarians.
