Early screening for type 1 diabetes (T1D) can help detect the disease years before symptoms appear, potentially preventing life-threatening complications and aiding in better management.
T1D is an autoimmune disease that destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, and unlike other types of diabetes, it cannot be prevented through lifestyle changes. While most people diagnosed have no family history, those with a relative who has T1D are at a higher risk.
Screening allows for earlier detection, reducing complications and contributing to research. For more information, contact your primary care physician or school nurse.
