Washington Elementary Students Learn About the Brain with Special Guest Nurse Eileen Wallace

Third-grade students at Washington Elementary have been diving into an engaging unit on "The Human Body: Systems and Senses" as part of their CKLA curriculum, recently exploring the fascinating world of the Nervous System and the brain.

As a special addition to their studies, school nurse Mrs. Eileen Wallace joined the students to share insights from the book Your Fantastic Elastic Brain by JoAnn Deak.

Nurse Wallace read to all third-grade classes, using the book to explain the brain’s incredible ability to grow, adapt, and learn new skills. Students were captivated as she discussed how their brains work and how understanding the brain can help them become better learners and problem-solvers.

The visit was part of a “pausing point” day—a chance to reinforce and reflect on what students have learned so far. This memorable reading session offered students a unique opportunity to connect with an expert on a personal level, inspiring curiosity about the brain and the nervous system.
