McCann Honored by NJHS

Independence Middle School proudly announces that eighth grader Jane McCann has been honored with the esteemed Outstanding Achievement Award from the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

An exceptional student, McCann demonstrates versatility both on and off the field. She excels in lacrosse and showcases her athleticism in the jumping events as a valued member of the IMS track & field team. Beyond sports, McCann actively participates in the school's community service initiatives.

Notably, this year, McCann dedicated her time to organizing a movie night for the families at William Penn Elementary School and contributed to the success of the school's Santa's Shop. Her commitment to serving others reflects her passion for making a positive impact in her community.

McCann appreciates the recognition, "It's always gratifying to be acknowledged for your dedication,” she said. “Representing Bethel Park on a national platform is an honor, and I am grateful for this opportunity to showcase our community."

The NJHS award celebrates middle-level students who exemplify the core values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. McCann's selection among the 500 NJHS students for this award is a testament to her outstanding commitment to these pillars.

Jane is a lovely person who embodies each of the five pillars of what it means to be in NJHS,” said Mrs. Kathleen Foster, who oversees IMS’ NJHS program. “She is an outstanding example of what NJHS stands for.”

Independence Middle School and the Bethel Park School District each congratulate Jane McCann on this well-deserved accomplishment and commends her for her exceptional contributions to the school and the community.
