Renowned Children's Author Jean Reidy Inspires Young Writers at Bethel Park

In April, students at Abraham Lincoln and George Washington Elementary Schools welcomed acclaimed children's author Jean Reidy, who discussed her process with the students and inspired them through the magic of writing.

The Chicago-based Reidy is celebrated for her captivating children's books, such as “Truman,” “Sylvie,” “Pup 681,” “Group Hug,” and “What Would You Do in a Book About You?” With a commitment to fostering literacy and creativity, Reidy's visit will leave a lasting impact on some of Bethel Park’s youngest minds.

Reidy engaged the students in discussions about the art of writing and the creative process. She also impressed upon the children about the importance of illustration and encouraged them to be what she called, “art detectives.”

“Pictures tell more than half the story of any children’s book, so working with talented illustrators who understand the story is extremely important,” she said.

The event was strategically scheduled before the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams, offering students valuable insights into the importance of writing and focusing their thoughts.

Reidy also autographed books for the students, providing them with cherished keepsakes and inspiring them to explore the world of literature further.

"We were thrilled to welcome Jean Reidy to Bethel Park," said Lincoln Elementary School librarian Mrs. Milana Popovic, who helped arrange the visit. “She was such an engaging speaker and provided our students with a fantastic opportunity to meet a real author and gain inspiration for their own writing journeys."
