Bethel Park High School senior Luke Myers was honored as the March Student of the Month by the Bethel Park Rotary Club at The Garden Restaurant on Gardenville Road. Recognized for his stellar academic performance, leadership, and community service, Luke boasts a remarkable 4.43 weighted GPA and active involvement in numerous school clubs and activities.
Luke manned the breaststroke leg of Bethel Park’s 200-meter combined medley relay team that recently competed in the State Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
Swimming is a very demanding sport that requires a lot of time and dedication to succeed. Myers, who started swimming when he was just six, acknowledges that his schedule is very full, but that’s how he likes it.
“I like staying busy,” he said. “I have found that I’m happiest and most productive when I'm busy doing things.”
When he’s not competing for the Hawks’ varsity swim team, Myers volunteers much of his time training and mentoring the next generation of Bethel Park swimmers. In the summertime, he works at the South Park Wave Pool.
Luke volunteers outside the pool as a math and science tutor for struggling students. The senior serves on the Advisory Board for the Student Government Association (SGA) and is also a member of the school’s Environmental Club, where he serves as a committee chair.
“I’m pretty passionate about protecting the environment,” he said. “Now that swimming is over, I plan on devoting more of my time and energy to SGA and the Environmental Club to help positively impact our community.”
According to Myers, that group recently held trash bag clean-up events behind the Aldi on Library Road and along Hornung Road. They also performed a tree transplant on the Neil Armstrong Middle School campus. Most of those trees were placed in planters and relocated before the ground clearing began.
Luke’s parents are Bethany and Patrick Myers. He has an older sister, Grace ’21, who attends Ohio University.
While Luke is still deciding on his college destination, his passion for protecting the environment has led him to consider a career as a chemical engineer.
