Breakfast with the Principal at Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln Elementary School students marked their achievements in the Accelerated Reader (AR) Program with a special event called "Breakfast with the Principal."

Hosted by Principal Mr. Jay Johnson, the breakfast honored students who successfully met their AR goals for the second nine-week academic quarter. Each participant enjoyed a delightful breakfast, received a certificate of achievement, and took home a commemorative pencil and bookmark as tokens of accomplishment.

The event, skillfully organized by school librarian Mrs. Milana Popovic, aimed to recognize the dedication of students toward reading outside the classroom. “The AR Program tailors reading goals and levels to individual students, encouraging them to tackle more challenging books and work harder to achieve their objectives,” she said.

In addition to the certificates, special recognition went to "Star Readers" who earned the highest points in their respective classrooms. That group included Charlotte Crowley, Norah Ford, Insley Long, Tyler McKinney, Penny Means, Adalaide O’Malley, and Brody Polglase.

Notably, this year saw the introduction of Target gift cards for "Most Improved Readers" in third and fourth grade, Niko Campbell and Geo Heinlein. These students, who hadn't previously participated in the program, demonstrated exceptional dedication and progress over the nine-week marking period.

The success of the AR Program aligns with its goal of making reading enjoyable for all students, fostering a sense of community celebration for academic achievements. Looking ahead, the program is set to expand, welcoming first and second graders to join in the next semester, allowing them to read and receive their rewards at the end of the third quarter.

Popovic said seeing her students discover their love of reading in real-time is the most important thing for her.

“As a school librarian, I cannot tell you how much joy I get by witnessing our students learning to read for pleasure and encouraging each other to explore new and exciting books,” she said.
