Bethel Park’s Perdziola Wins Big Heart Scholarship

Bethel Park High School proudly announces that Nick Perdziola, a 2023 graduate and dedicated community servant, has been awarded the prestigious Big Heart Scholarship. Funded by the Gentile Family, this scholarship recognizes students who embody exceptional character, compassion, and a commitment to positively impacting their community.

The Big Heart Scholarship, administered through BOLD.org, was established by the Gentile Family in memory of the late Jon Gentile. It serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of a remarkable individual. Jon Gentile's life was a shining example of kindness, generosity, and a relentless dedication to uplifting others. His untimely passing in a kayaking accident at 38 inspired his family to create a scholarship perpetuating his spirit of giving and inclusivity.

"As a family, we believe strongly in the impact a big heart can have on the lives of others,” said Jon’s widow and scholarship committee member, Kathy Gentile. “We witnessed this impact simply by being fortunate to have Jon Gentile in our lives. Much like us, his students reaped those benefits as well.”

The scholarship is distinct in its selection criteria, focusing on character rather than traditional academic or athletic achievements. It celebrates high school students who prioritize the well-being of others, exemplify inclusivity, and spread joy in their community. The Big Heart Scholarship encourages a new generation of compassionate leaders by shifting the focus to qualities that truly reflect the essence of humanity.

According to Kathy Gentile, the committee agreed that Perdziola, headed to Duquesne University, perfectly embodies the values championed by the scholarship. During his time at Bethel Park High School, Nick consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community service, fostering inclusivity, and spreading positivity. His dedication to making a difference, both in and out of the classroom, exemplifies the essence of the Big Heart Scholarship.

“We feel that an annual scholarship to a deserving student is an ideal way to honor Jon and the student of choice in living a life of strong character, kindness, and integrity,” said Kathy Gentile. “Nick has embodied these qualities, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this deserving young man."

The Gentile Family's generosity has provided Perdziola with a $9,170 scholarship, enabling him to further his education while carrying forward the legacy of Jon Gentile. The scholarship honors Jon's memory and inspires future generations to lead with compassion and empathy.

Bold.org is the largest independent scholarship provider in the US, with millions of active students, and is always looking for more scholarship applicants.
