IMS's Meet the Firefighters Day

IMS had a “Meet the Firefighters Event” on Sept. 15. Students could handle firefighting equipment, try on a heavy fire suit, and explore the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company’s fire trucks.

Learning Support Teacher Ms. Kristen Fonda organized the event as part of the “Be the Kind Kid” campaign.

According to Fonda, her group will dedicate the entire 2023-2024 school year to supporting our local heroes at the BPVFD. Inspired by the recent fire on Willow Glen Drive, she felt compelled to help.

Her group raised an impressive $155 to decorate the fire station and provide a delicious dinner for the department’s 40 firefighters as a special 9/11 commemoration.

But their support will not stop there! They will hold dinners for the firefighters from 6-8 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.

To do that, they’ll need help from the community. That is why they kindly ask for donations from the public of water, Gatorade, and snacks to keep the firefighters hydrated and energized during their heroic efforts.

If you would like to show appreciation for our community’s most dedicated public servants, please drop off your donations at the BPVFD Firehouse at 5213 Brightwood Road.

Fonda also announced plans to launch an Adopt-a-Firefighter campaign that would pair students with firefighters, allowing the students to get to know some of their community's heroes on a more personal level.
